Abstract
1386521 Monitoring liquid levels BESTEL DEAN Ltd 14 Sept 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 38543/72 Heading G1N Changes in the level of a liquid 122, Fig. 3, are sensed by a float 120 attached to atape 112 driving a wheel 26 which is coupled by gears 30, 46, Fig. 2 to a disc 50 carrying a plurality of bar magnets 70 past a reed switch 78, Fig. 1, which therefore emits a number of pulses indicative of the change in liquid level. The disc 50 is attached through a slipping clutch arrangement to an arm 84 carrying the switch 78, and an arm 86 carrying an encapsulated magnet 90 which co-operates with a fixed reed switch 92. When the disc 50 rotates in the direction B, the magnet 90 approaches reed switch 92 and switches it on to enable the measuring pulses to be counted in a positive sense. The magnet 90 rests on switch 92 whilst disc 50 continues to rotate in the direction B. When the liquid level changes in the opposite sense, the disc 50 rotates in direction A. Magnet 90 is removed from switch 92 which changes over to enable the pulses to be counted in a negative sense. As disc 50 rotates, magnet 90 and switch 78 are stationary with switch 78 resting on an adjustable rod 96. (For Figures see next page)
