Abstract

1,076,163. Separating liquids from gases. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO. Ltd. April 15, 1964 [April 28, 1963], No. 48869/62. Heading BIT. A moisture extracting device includes a tubular member 8 of moisture-coalescing material in the gas flow path between an inlet 6 and an outlet 7 of a housing 1, a body of water absorbing material 18 located within the housing, and a moisture outlet 19 for the moisture which drains off from the absorbent material into a trough. A pressure relief valve 13 coated with polytetrafluoroethylene normally closes the end of the member 8 remote from the inlet. The member 8 may be a number of layers of woven fabric supported by a tubular wire mesh. The woven fabric may be stainless steel cloth, or a plastics material such as nylon. Alternatively the member 8 may be constructed from compressed fibres, e.g. felt. The fibres project outwards of the body to form a nap. The moisture absorbing material is separated from the trough by a perforated plate 17 and is sponge like material of a suitable foamed plastics, e.g. foamed polyurethane, or else a foamed rubber. The housing is surrounded by thermally insulating material 24.
