Abstract
<PICT:1075447/C1/1> A process for treating ferrous sulphate heptahydrate solutions in a temperature range in which solid ferrous sulphate monohydrate is stable in contact with the ferrous sulphate solution is characterized by transformation of the heptahydrate by crystallization to monohydrate in a solution of sulphuric acid, the concentration of said acid being maintained at between 8 and 50% by weight of the solution. In one embodiment, FeSO4.7M2O is charged to container 1 which is heated to 55 DEG to 70 DEG C. by steam in jacket 3a. Sulphuric acid is supplied through pipe 4a. FeSO4.M2O precipitated in container 1 is carried in suspension to thickener 6, whence the mother liquor is removed and recycled to container 1, or alternatively subjected to vacuum crystallization to obtain FeSO4.7H2O. The FeSO4.M2O paste is removed from the bottom of the thickener, any remaining mother liquor being removed in centrifuge 8, or in a rotary or suction filter, and combined with the liquor in pipe 7.
