Abstract
1,075,172. Extruding. MANNESMANNMEER A.G. June 15, 1964 [June 13, 1963], No. 24795/64. Heading B3P. [Also in Division B5] A crank-operated extrusion press has its crank-shaft 7 driven through variable speed mechanism, including reversing mechanism, whereby the crank-shaft may move selectively at different speeds in different directions or may have an oscillating movement. The crank-shaft is driven through gearing 2, 3, 5, 6 and gears 8, 9, 10 in constant mesh with respective gears 12, 13, 14 which are connected selectively to shaft 18 by clutches 15, 16, 17 respectively. Shaft 18 is driven by gearing 19, 20, 21 in either direction as selected by clutches 22, 23 driven through toothed fly-wheels 26, 27 and belt pulley 28 from a motor. Brakes 11 are provided. The brakes and clutches may be controlled by electric, hydraulic or pneumatic means so as to vary the speed during the extrusion cycle to provide for example a quick return stroke or an oscillating motion of the crank-shaft. Reference is made to the extrusion of steel and aluminium.
