Abstract

The invention comprises quaternary salts of a 2,3-hydroxynaphthoic acid amide of the general formula <FORM:1075000/C2/1> in which X represents hydrogen, a halogen atom or an alkoxy group and Q represents <FORM:1075000/C2/2> or <FORM:1075000/C2/3> which n is 2 or 3; R1 and R2 which may be the same or different, represent alkyl groups or alkylene groups attached to each other to form a ring by a carbon, nitrogen or oxygen atom; R3 and R4, which may be the same or different represent alkyl, aralkyl or allyl groups; and Y is the anion of an inorganic acid or of a partially esterified polybasic inorganic acid. For example, R1 and R2 together may form with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, a morpholino, pyrrolidino, piperidino, piperazino group and these groups may carry alkyl substituents. The quaternary salts may be obtained by reacting tertiary bases of 2,3-hydroxy naphthoic acid amides with alkyl, aralkyl or allyl halides, sulphates or phosphates, preferably in the presence of a solvent.
