Abstract

1,074,952. Stud & socket fastenings. HARLEY PATENTS (INTERNATIONAL) Ltd. March 17, 1964 [March 22, 1963], No. 11531/ 63. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] A locking pin comprises a tubular body closed at one end by a plug 17 and having a spring member extending longitudinally therein, the said member affording latching portion 19 which are normally biased to extend outwardly through slits 18, and release means capable of movement independently of the latching member to radially contract the latches to withdraw the pin. As shown, the spring member comprises a hairpin-shaped spring 20 having ear portions 19 which provide abutment surfaces 23 normal to the axis of the pin and inclined portions 24. At the end of the pin remote from the plug 17 there' is provided a loose thimble-like cap 27 having a pair of holes 28 through which extends a split ring 29. The ring 29 is looped round the looped end of a spring wire release member which comprises longitudinal arms 34 the free ends of which are turned back around the inclined portions 24 of the latch portions 19. In a modification Figs. 5, 6, (not shown) the release member is formed by a pair of longitudinal plates having abutting central portions the ends being bent outwardly to provide portions having holes through which the inclined portions 24 of the spring 20 extend. In another modification Figs. 7, 8 (not shown) the spring 20 is a flat spring.
