Abstract

1,073,693. Valves. KOPPERS CO. Inc. Feb. 26, 1965 [Feb. 26, 1964], No. 8518/65. Heading F2V. A rotary-plug valve for controlling the fuel gas and decarbonizing air to the burners of a coke oven in a sequential manner has four equally-spaced ports comprising a pair of inlets (22, 24. Fig. 1, not shown) and a pair of outlets (32, 34) flow between which is controlled by a closure consisting of a member 14, Fig. 3, with end walls 46, 48, a cut-away portion 50, defined by a wall 52 below which is a separate arcuate passageway 58 of rectangular section which conforms to the rectangular section of ports (30, 32, 34). The walls 46, 48 embody lubricating grooves 60, 62 supplied directly or via casing channels; the casing has a removable cover. The plug is axially loaded by a spring and actuated through a lever 78 by a horizontally movable wire 80.
