Abstract

1,072,997. Slip casting. JASBA-KERAMIKFABRIKEN, JAKOB SCHWADERLAPP KOMM. GES. Sept. 9, 1965, No. 38564/65. Heading B5A. A suspension of particles, e.g. an aqueous ceramic slip, is applied under pressure to the inside of a filter mould 3 of porous material mounted within a closed vessel 1, to which a liquid at a lower pressure and miscible with the liquid constituent of the suspension, e.g. water, is supplied from containers 10 and pipes 6 under the control of valves 7 and taps 15. The slip is fed from a container 11 and via a valve 13 to the level of an overflow 12, and pistons 24, 21 are then urged downwardly to force the water through the mould and into the space 2 which may contain sand or gravel. The pressure differential between the inside and outside of the mould is preferably controlled by adjusting the taps 15 which control water backflow from the space 2. This differential may be low initially and becoming greater as the thickness of the cast article builds up. For separating the article from the mould, water &c. may be forced through the mould from the outside. The porous material of the mould may comprise cement with kieselguhr, a porous filler.
