Abstract
The invention comprises t-amyl performate and 2,5-dimethyl hexane-2,5-diperformate and a process for the preparation of tertiary-alkyl peresters of formic acid by reacting formic acid with a tertiary alkyl hydroperoxide and thereafter isolating the resultant perester from the reaction mixture. Preferably the by-product water is removed continuously from the reaction mixture by distillation employing a water-entraining or water-azeotroping agent and the perester is isolated by "perforation" of the reaction mixture with a solvent boiling at 40 DEG to 60 DEG C. An antioxidant may be added to the reaction system during the reaction on the perforation.
