Abstract

Heading H1P. ]Also in Division F2] An armature (19) is connected by a stem (6) to a closure (5) which is unseated as the armature (19) is raised, upon actuation of a surrounding solenoid 13, with the movement thereof damped by oil in the armature chamber (22) flowing between the armature (19) and the chamber wall (8), or, alternatively, through one or more throttle channels through the armature (19). Leakage of oil around the valve stem (6) is prevented by an extensible sealing tube (28), acting also as a return spring, which is clamped to the armature (19) by a screwed-in sleeve (30) and at the base of the armature chamber between a plug (20) and a threaded member (21). Displacement of the valve stem (6) into the armature chamber (22) is accommodated by connection to a reservoir chamber (23) via a throttle (25) through an insert (24) in a magnetic plug (9) provided with a throttle screw (27) for venting to atmosphere but which screw prevents the flow of oil. The venting device may be omitted if the reservoir wall comprises a resilient diaphragm or if the reservoir air space is sufficiently large at maximum oil level.
