Abstract
Novel compounds of the formula <FORM:1070438/C2/1> in which R represents a hydrogen atom or an acyl radical, are obtained by dehydrogenating a 1,2b -methylene steroid of the formula <FORM:1070438/C2/2> in which R is as defined above especially with selenium dioxide, 2,3-dichloro - 5,6 - dicyano-benzoquinone or chloranil, and, depending on the meaning R is to have in the end-product, if desired, esterifying a free 17a -hydroxyl group with the desired acid or a reactive acid derivative, or hydrolysing a 17a -acyloxy group.
