A stay bar 5 is pivotally attached to a window horizontally pivoted about its upper frame member, and passes through a plug 9 rotatably mounted within a block 7 attached to a fixed frame 8. Apertures or slots 5b in the stay 5 engage with a projection 9b of the internal passage of plug 9 to hold the window in various open positions. The body 7 and plug 9 are provided with suitable recesses (7b, 9c Fig. 4) to allow the stay to be pivoted to one side in the closed position.
