Abstract

Water-soluble salts of oxydextran isonicotinoyl hydrazone are made by reacting oxydextran (dialdehyde dextran) in an aqueous medium with isoniazide in a molar ratio of 1:1 to 1:6 (basic mol. of oxydextran:mol. isoniazide) and dissolving the resulting water-insoluble hydrazone in a not dilute mineral acid at about 30 DEG C. to give a water-soluble salt. Specified salts are hydrochloride and sulphate. Hydrazone formation may be carried out at ambient temperature, and the product may be purified by precipitation and washing with methanol before dissolving in dilute acid hydrochloric or sulphuric acid to form the salt, which may be isolated by precipitation from the reaction mixture with acetone or methanol. The compounds are used as tuberculostatics.ALSO:Parenterally-administered tuberculostatics of low toxicity which provide an isoniazide blood level lying within the therapeutic range over a long period of time comprise water-soluble salts of oxydextran isonicotinoyl hydrazone. The salts may be hydrochloride or sulphate.
