Abstract

Aminoguanidine is produced by reducing nitroguanidine with sodium amalgam in aqueous solution or suspension at a temperature of from 0 DEG to 30 DEG C. and a pH of from 7.5 to 11. The pH value is controlled by adding a buffer substance, e.g. ammonium chloride or sulphate or boric acid, or an acid, e.g. sulphuric, hydrochloric, phosphoric or carbonic. The aminoguanidine may be precipitated as a sparingly soluble salt.
