Abstract

1,069,811. Rotary vacuum pumps. GENEVAC Ltd. April 26, 1965 [Jan.30, 1964], No. 4093/64. Heading F1F. [Also in Division F2] An oil-sealed rotary vacuum pump 10 mounted in an oil storage reservoir 11 and including an oil pump 15 driven with the vacuum pump which supplies oil to the pumping chamber through an oil feed line 16, includes in the pump inlet line 20 a valve seat 21 co-operable with a resiliently loaded valve member 22 located on the pump side of the seat and held open when the vacuum pump is operating by oil pressure supplied to a bellows 25 (or piston) through a branch line 26. Oil passing through the line 16 passes through a restriction 27, a catch-pot 17 with its rim slightly above the oil level 12 and a needle valve 19. In the event of stoppage of the vacuum pump the oil pump also stops with consequent loss of pressure in the lines 16, 26. The valve 22 then closes to prevent the vacuum system being contaminated with oil and allows only the small amount of oil in the catchpot 17 to reach the pumping chamber. The loading of the spring 23 is such that on re-starting the vacuum pump the valve 22 does not open until the pumping chamber is sufficiently exhausted.
