Abstract
1,068,851. Axle suspensions. FRANZ CHOUTH RHEINISCHE GUMMIWARENFABRIK A.G. Aug. 4, 1964 [Sept. 27, 1963; March 13, 1964; April 14, 1964], No. 31716/64. Heading B7L. In a rail vehicle an axle suspension consists of a steel leaf spring 18, Figs. 3 and 4, mounted at each end on a vehicle frame bracket 17- through pairs of shackles 12 and an auxiliary rubber ring spring 32 connected between the shackles 12 and shackle pin bushes or blocks 16 in the shackles 12. Each leaf spring eye 5 is mounted on a pin 13 engaged at each end in bushes or blocks 14 and the shackles 12 engage the blocks 14 and the blocks 16 engaging the ends of a pin 15 passing through an eye 9 in the bracket 17. Each block 16 has an outer wall 20 separated by a slot from a longer inner wall 19, the slots engaging shackle portions 29. The outer ends of the walls 19 are secured to a cone 21 engaging the inside of the rubber ring 32, the outside of the latter being engaged by a cone 22 secured by four eye-bolts 25 to noses 24 on the shackles 12 at the ends of the portions 29. The compression of the ring is adjustable by nuts 33 on the eye-bolts which pass through claws 23 on the cone 22. When the vehicle is initially loaded both the leaf spring and the auxiliary springs 32 are operative. When the portions 29 engage the bases 34 of the slots in the shackles the higher load is transmitted directly to the leaf spring. In another embodiment the auxiliary spring device can be fitted as a unit to the leaf spring shackles and is initially pre-compressed, all as described with reference to Figs. 8 to 10 (not shown).
