Abstract
In the production of bulked, continuous filament, nylon yarn, a continuous filamentary bundle e.g. a conglomeration of three, individual, 1000 denier, twisted or "twistless" yarns, is mechanically crimped in a stuffing-box. The crimped bundle, prior to winding-up, is divided into separate bundles e.g. the component yarns, the linear alignment of which is altered by passing them severally along guided paths of different lengths or by stripping different lengths from some bundles and are finally recombined into a single bundle or (composite) yarn. If recombining is effected before winding-up, the final bulked yarn is wound as an entity; if it occurs thereafter, the bundles are separately wound e.g. as three "biscuits" on one cylinder, and recombining occurs during an unwinding process when the yarn is twisted. If the crimping operation is regulated by controlled variation in tension of filaments withdrawn from the crimper, the separating and recombining are effected before the recombined bundle contacts a magnetic particle brake.
