Abstract

Two or more multi-filament yarns 16 of, for example, polyester, are guided over a grooved roller 24 to feed rollers 14, 15 of a stuffer-box crimper wherein they form individual cores, the crimped yarns being then led side-by-side to a winder 50 where they are together wound onto a package 51. The winding operation is stated to roll the strands together as they are traversed. From the stuffing chamber (tube 12) the yarns pass through a conical bore 31 (Fig. 4) of a cylindrical member 30 mounted in slots 42 in the tube, movement of the member 30 operating a microswitch 44 to adjust the feed or withdrawal of the yarns, which then pass through a ceramic eye 48, around tensioning bars 49 and through a slub catcher 49a to the winder 50. The simultaneous crimping of two or more yarns is stated to provide greater crimp frequency and to reduce the risk of filament breakage on withdrawal.
