Abstract

1,068,062. Measuring linear dimensions electrically; determining diameter variations. OXFORD PAPER CO. May 5, 1964 [Oct. 2, 1963], No.18609/64. Headings G1M and G1N. A gauge for measuring variations in the diameter of a roll, e. g. of paper, over its whole width comprises a bar 4, Fig.2, located parallel to the axis of the roll by pads 6, 8, Fig. 1, (not shown) and a sliding bush 28 on the bar carrying two divergent arms 18, 20 with feelers 32, 38 located at their ends and bearing against the roll, the feeler 38 being connected to a differential transformer 14 the output of which records the variations. The sliding bush is driven by a motor (44) to traverse the feelers from end to end of the roll. Set screws 30, 34 enable the probes 32, 38 to be adjusted relatively to the arms 18, 20, so that they can be set on a diameter of rolls of varying sizes.
