1,067,477. Cathode-ray tubes. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. Aug. 27, 1965 [Aug. 27, 1964], No. 36867/65. Heading H1D. In a cathode-ray display tube an intermediate image of the beam cross-over, cathode spot or beam cross-section at an aperture diaphragm is formed by a first lens with a magnification of not greater than three and preferably a magnification of unity or less, and the intermediate image is reproduced on the fluorescent screen by a second lens after the deflection system. The first lens may be between the deflection system and the screen or between the horizontal and vertical deflection systems. The lenses may be electrostatic or magnetic. Both lenses may be three-electrode Einzel lenses, but the second lens is preferably a two-cylinder lens also acting as a post-deflection accelerator. The lenses are preferably axially symmetric but the second lens may have auxiliary electrodes to reduce distortions. The deflection system may be electrostatic or magnetic.
