Abstract
1,157,202. Cathode-ray tubes. CSF - COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. 3 Aug., 1966 [3 Sept., 1965], No. 34770/66. Heading H1D. In a cathode-ray tube in which the electron beam is focussed-e.g. by a quadrupolar lens 11 employed for amplifying the beam deflectionafter passing through first and second deflection plates 8 and 10 and before entering a post-deflection acceleration assembly, the latter assembly includes a domed electrode 13 having its centre of curvature substantially coincident with the centre of deflection of the second deflection plates, and being formed with a slot 13 whose area embraces the loci of cross-over points of the focussed beam of electrons, which are accelerated towards the screen 14 by a potential difference applied between the domed electrode and the screen and conductive layer 15 coating the tube envelope. As shown, the lens 11 may be contained at least partially within the aperture of electrode 12, and the slot 13 may be either rectangular or elliptical. The tube shown is also provided with a second quadrupolar lens 9, which both amplifies the deflection produced by vertical deflection plates 8, and counteracts the astigmatism produced by the lens 11.
