Abstract

<PICT:1067423/C6-C7/1> An anodizing apparatus 8 comprises a tank 19 containing electrolyte 50 e.g. sulphuric acid, closed at its bottom by an anodizable metallic sheet 12 e.g. aluminium, with a potential difference connected between the electrolyte and sheet, and an endless belt 54, having a plurality of discontinuities such as apertures or slots in its surface and mounted on a pair of rotatable rollers 56, 58 disposed within the tank for flowing the electrolyte over the sheet surface. The potential difference may be established with an anode e.g. graphite blocks tightly forced in sliding contact with the undersurface of the sheet by pressure differential means, comprising a chamber 93 beneath the tank with vacuum means connected to the chamber for evacuating fluid, and with a plurality of cooling tubes (61, Figs. 2, 3, 4, 6) disposed in the electrolyte to form the cathode.
