Abstract
893,570. Electroplating. INDUSTRIEWERKE KARLSRUHE A.G. Nov. 6, 1959 [Dec. 19, 1958], No. 37699/59. Class 41. An apparatus for rinsing, degreasing and electroplating surfaces having any desired crosssection, e.g. guideways 1 on a lathe 2, comprises a housing 3 of an acid-resistant material which is adapted to fit in sealing-tight relationship over the guideway 1 and which carries on its underpart 7 an anode 10, the cross-section of which conforms to that of the guideway 1 to define a space which communicates by ducts 12 with the interior of the housing 3 above the anode 10. The housing 3, which may be of a transparent synthetic plastic material, comprises a coverplate 4, side and end walls 5, 6, and a base-plate 7 having spaced slots 12, and forms a seal on the surface 17 of the lathe 2 by means of an elastic synthetic plastic material 16 in a groove 15. Similar seals are formed at each end of the housing 3 one against an end face of the lathe by means of a depending wall on the housing and the other against the inclined walls of the guideway 1. A clamp 18 holds the casing 3 in position and leads 11 connect the anode 10 to a source of positive electricity. Intermediate portions of the guideway 1 are plated by a housing 3 having end walls shaped to conform to the cross-section of the guideway and making sealing contact therewith. The anode 10, Fig. 8, may have a central tube 40 into which the liquids are delivered, bores 41 leading out of the anode. The bores 41 may be inclined longitudinally of the anode. After pumping hot water and a degreasing liquid through the casing 3, a heated acid electrolyte is pumped therethrough, all the liquids entering at each end of the casing, e.g. at 20, and leaving via pipes as 23, at the top of the side 5, the degreasing liquid and the electrolyte being recirculated.
