A waterbornecraft has means for creating a thin continuous film of air between the hull and the water comprises a compressed air supply and a porous membrane (17) which will permit air to flow through it. A metal deck (15) extends between the inner sides (13) of the hull (11) and the membrane (17) is secured to the hull and spaced by joists (16) from the deck 15 so as to form a cavity (18) in communication with the outlet from an air compressor.
