The intimately mixed ingredients of a sounddeadening sheet material include bitumen and a filler, e.g. whiting, ground limestone, silica, or barytes, or a mixture thereof, possibly with a small proportion of mica, and one side of the sheet has a regular pattern, e.g. of dots or lines, of adhesive thereon. The adhesive is a rubber latex and is applied by an intaglio roller or silk screen to cover some 25% of the surface with a weight distribution of adhesive of 1-2 grams per square foot. In the manufacture of motor body metal panels, a suitably shaped sheet of the sound-deadening material is laid on the upturned inside face of the panel, which is then passed through an oven at 150‹ C. to cause the sheet to assume the contour of the panel and to bond the sheet and panel together.
