Abstract

1,178,949. Floor coverings. VERTON & WELLENSIEK. 12 Aug., 1968, No. 38361/68. Heading A4S. [Also in Divisions B5, E1 and H5] A n elastic water-permeable floor covering, e.g. for playgrounds, sportsfields, comprises a layer 1 of vulcanised natural or synthetic rubber chips bonded by adhesive, which layer is bonded to a felt or non-woven fabric 4 of synthetic fibres. The board may be provided with grooves 2, 3 to facilitate assembly, channels 5 for water removal and for installing heating elements, and metal reinforcement 6. The rubber chips, e.g. polybutadiene, polyisoprene, olefin-acrylonitrite copolymer, may contain fillers and should be bonded by adhesive in such an amount as will render the layer water-permeable, e.g. in an adhesive : rubber weight ratio of 0.13-0.20 : 1. Suitable adhesives are specified, which may also be used for bonding layers 1, 4 together. The layer 4 may comprise fibres of polyamide, polyester, polyacrylanilide, acrylonitrile copolymer or polyolefin. The layer 1 may be shaped to form a board at elevated temperature and pressure.
