106,499. Depage, A. May 15, 1916, [Convention date]. Limbs, artificial.-Artificial limbs are made of a number of strips of wood shavings glued together by a special waterproof glue. The strips, which are about 0.2 mm. thick and may be intertwined to withstand stresses in any direction, are wound upon a plaster model and blocks of wood are inserted at the joints. A knee joint has a pivot pin 1. Fig. 1, running in journals 2; one end 5 of the pin is turned down and is internally threaded to carry a nut 7. A spring stop takes the form of a rod 9 which is carried on pivots 10 and engages a spring socket 11. An eye 13 is fixed to the pivot pin and engages a cradle 15 the upper part 16 of which acts as a pulley for the fixing strap. An ankle joint comprises a universal coupling consisting of a block 27, Fig. 3, with a transverse bolt 28 running between ears 21 upon a bottom plate 17 and a longitudinal bolt running between ears 26 upon an upper plate 23. Rubber blocks 29, 30 are provided to act as resilient stops.
