1,064,603. Refractory bricks. DIDIERWERKE A.G. Feb. 1, 1965 [Feb. 29, 1964], No. 4308/65. Heading F4B. A refractory brick 1, for the back wall of a Siemens- Martin furnace, has a recessed end 3 to provide a stepped configuration and a Z-shaped metal strip 7 embedded therein, with its web 8 in contact with one face 6 of the recess 3 and its free limb 9 co-planar with and end face 4 of the brick and extending towards the lateral edge 10. The web 8 may be flush with the face 6 of the recess 3 as shown or merely in contact with but standing out from it. The free limb may have lateral extensions to conform in width to that of the brick. In use the bricks, which may be chemically bonded, or fired, and with or without a metal encasement, are aligned so that their recesses form a continuous rectangular channel through which a profiled bearer may be inserted to provide one row of anchored bricks.
