Abstract

106,217. Spalding, D. Sept. 26, 1916. Pliers; vices; cramps.-Relates to pliers having a screw for drawing the handles together so that they are adapted for use as a hand-vice or cramp, and comprises a screw-releasing arrangement whereby the jaws may be quickly adjusted to the size of the object to be gripped. As shown, the screw 11, provided with the operating arm 14, passes freely through a slot 10 in the handle 8 and engages the other handle 9 by means of a thread at one end of the slot 18 and a thread on the inner side of a half-nut 21 slidable in the slot 18 The half-nut is pressed into engagement with the screw by a spring 22, and may be disengaged for quick adjustment by pulling on the rod 19.
