Abstract

1,060,945. Spray carburetters. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. March 26, 1965, No.12857/65. Heading F1B. The fuel-air ratio of a carburetter is controlled in accordance with both throttle valve position and intake pipe suction. A fuel metering valve 17 is controlled by a three dimensional cam 33 which is rotated by a lever 37 connected to the throttle valve linkage and moved axially by a piston 49 actuated by intake pipe suction. The metering orifice 13 is formed in a sleeve 11 which is adjustable by a lever 89 in accordance with engine or ambient temperature or atmospheric pressure. The throttle valve lever 70 is operated from lever 37 through a resilient link 65 whereby the throttle opening lags behind the adjustment of needle 17 to enrich the mixture during acceleration. The movement of the throttle valve is delayed by a damper 73. The needle 17 also controls an idlery metering orifice 77, at overrunning, a suction actuated piston 85 opens a normally closed valve 87 to destroy the suction at the idlery orifices 79. 81 and cut off the idlery fuel supply. The needle 17 may control the fuel-air ratio by controlling the aerating air inlet 14 instead of the fuel orifice 13.
