Abstract
Goggles, eye shields and the like are made from a transparent homogeneous sheet material comprising an artificial plastics material, e.g. cellulose acetate, especially cellulose acetate, having an acetic acid content of about 52 to 55% having incorporated therein a transparent absorber of ultra-violet radiation, and thermal black as an infra-red radiation absorber. The proportion of thermal black is suitably about 0.5%. Plasticizers and dyestuffs may also be present. The ultra-violet absorber may comprise a major proportion of acetophenone. Specified plasticizers include dimethyl phthalate, triphenyl phosphate and trichloroethyl phosphate and a specified dyestuff is filter cyan. The constituents may be mixed together in the presence of a solvent, e.g. acetone or an ethanolbenzene mixture, rolled and formed into sheets, which are welded together to form a block, from which sheet sections of the required thicknesses are cut.
