511,419. Polyvinyl acetal resin compositions. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-. (Fiberloid Corporation). Nov. 17, 1937, No. 31638. [Class 2 (iii)] A composition suitable for interlayers for safety glass comprises a polyvinyl acetal resin and a permanently miscible plasticizer therefor in such 'proportion as to give substantially equal hot and cold break tests, the plasticizer being an ester of the 'formula R (COOR1)x, where R is an aliphatic or aromatic radical, R1 is an aliphatic radical, and x is 1, 2, or 3, and wherein if the carbon atoms in R1, or in R where R is aliphatic, are increased 'by more than 2 and the resulting compound is used in the same proportion, the compound is incompatible with the resin. Polyvinyl 'butyraldehyde acetal resin '(containing 16-20 'per cent. hydroxyl and 0-20 per cent. acetate groups) may be plasticized with ethyl laurate; polyvinyl butyraldehyde acetal (containing 16-20 per cent. hydroxyl and 0-2 per cent. acetate groups) may be plasticized with di-n-butyldiglycollate, triethyleneglycol di-n-butyrate, tri-n-butyl phosphate, di-n-amyl phthalate, di-n-butyl succinate, tri-n-butyl citrate. #-(#-nbutoxy)-ethoxyethyl n-butyrate, di-n-butylthio-di-glycollate, ethyl laurate, di-#-ethoxyethyl phthalate; polyvinyl formaldehyde acetal resin (containing 8 per cent. hydroxyl and 10 per cent.) may be plasticized with diethyl phthalate, diethyleneglycol dipropionate, triethylenegjycbl dipropionate, #-(#-benzoxy)-ethoxyethyl propionate, diethyl succinate, dimethyl sebacate.
