Abstract
N1-(5-nitrofurfurylidene)-1-amino-hydantoin is prepared by adding monochloroacetic acid over a period of at least 12 hours at 0 DEG to 5 DEG C. to an alkaline aqueous solution of hydrazine in such a way that the reaction occurs in the presence of excess hydrazine, and successively reacting the reaction product with an alkali metal cyanate and 5-nitrofurfuraldehyde, the process being carried out in a single aqueous phase without isolation of intermediates.
