1,059,943. Rail vehicle handbrake mechanism. METROPOLITAN - CAMMELL CARRIAGE & WAGON CO. Ltd. Sept. 10, 1964 [Sept. 24, 1963], No. 37465/63. Headings F2E and F2S. A rail vehicle handbrake linkage for brake shoes mounted to move with the vehicle frame relative to the wheels during suspension movements is provided with a resiliently yieldable force transmitting member which yields under the braking force but is preloaded so that it does not yield until the force exceeds a pre-determined value. The member 24 connects two rods 23, 23a of the linkage and comprises a tubular sleeve with an end cap 44 abutting a nut 46 on the rod 23a and an end face 35 engaging a spring 41 disposed within the tube between the face 35 and a washer 38 on the other rod 23. In the inoperative position of the linkage the ends of the rod abut; the maximum yielding of the device may be limited by the spring becoming solid or by, as shown, the provision of a tube 36 which then abuts the washer 38.
