Abstract

105,974. Morris, A. D. May 4, 1916. Packing, metallic.-Packing for piston-rods &c. consists of two segmental rings 2, 3 compressed by circumferential springs 9. The segments of the ring 2 are spaced by pins 10, each secured in the end of one segment and bearing on the end of another segment, while pins 11 secured in the segments of the ring 2 project into the gaps between the segments of ring 3. The ends of the segments are flared outwards from the piston-rod and the gaps are covered by bridge pieces 8. Balancing chambers 13 are formed in the segments, with passages leading to the periphery of the packing.
