Abstract

1,059,586. Making push rods. G.K.N. SCREWS & FASTENERS Ltd. Feb. 3, 1965 [Nov. 7, 1963], No. 43940/63. Headings B3A and B3P. Each end part 10 of a hollow push rod is formed from a metal slug (16) (Fig. 4, not shown) by extrusion through a die having an internal mandrel. The slug is formed;-from a cylindrical blank (11) and an axial hole (15) formed therein terminates at a pre-determined distance from an end projection (14) to give the required thickness 20. The flared portions 22 are trimmed and two end parts 10 are welded to each other (23) (Fig. 6, not. shown) or to an intermediate member. In an alternative embodiment each end portion 22 is completely removed and one end is reduced in diameter so as to fit into the open end of the other part (Fig. 8, not shown). The parts are then welded together.
