Abstract
1,059,475. Steam turbines. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS G. m. b. H. June 10, 1964 [June 12, 1963], No. 24100/64. Heading F1T. A steam turbine cylinder 1 is maintained ready for rapid starting by supplying heating steam or gas to spirally or cylindrical formed tubes 2 surrounding the cylinder casing 4 inwardly of thermal insulation 5. Tubes 2 are of decreasing bore such that the rate of heat supply decreases along the axial length of the cylinder so that the casing 4 and rotor 6 are maintained at elevated temperatures corresponding to those existing during a "warm" start. The tubes may taper in bore continuously or be stepped and may be replaced by gas or steam passageways or by electric elements arranged to maintain the required temperature distribution.
