Abstract

<PICT:0958731/C3/1> Plant for supplying heated air to a blast furnace 1 comprises a gas turbine unit 17 burning blast furnace gas supplied through cleaning units 9, 13 and 18 and driving an air blower 21 and an electric generator 23, an indirect heat exchanger 27 supplied with exhaust gases from the turbine and air from the blower, and electric heaters 33 arranged in parallel to supply additional heat to the air on its way to the tryeres 3. The electric heaters are arranged near the furnace on girders extending radially therefrom. In practice eight or nine electric heaters are used, and the generator 23 is a three-phase alternator working through a transformer 35. Air leaves the heat exchanger 27 at a temperature of about 500 DEG C. and is heated further up to about 850 DEG C. Slightly under 50% of the blast furnace gas is conducted by a main 19 to other parts of the iron works.
