Ammonium sulphate.-The oxidation of ammonium sulphite to sulphate is effected by the action of air, oxygen, or other oxidant on a solution of the sulphite in presence of a sparinglysoluble sulphate such as calcium sulphate. It is stated that a double decomposition occurs with the production of an insoluble sulphite, and that this is then oxidized to sulphate which again reacts as before, the final result being the carrying of oxygen to the ammonium sulphite.
