Abstract
Compounds of the general formula <FORM:1058403/C2/1> (wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1- 4 alkyl radical, R2 represents a halogen atom or a C1- 4 alkyl radical, and either R3 represents a hydrogen atom and each of R4 and R5 represents a C1- 4 alkyl radical or R5 represents a C1- 4 alkyl radical and R3 + R4 represents an ethylene radical) and their acid addition salts are prepared by treating a compound of the formula <FORM:1058403/C2/2> with an agent for splitting off water, optionally followed by acid addition salt formation. When the 9-substituent is acyclic the product (free base or salt) may be separated into the cis and trans isomers. The starting materials may be prepared by reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1058403/C2/3> with a compound of the formula <FORM:1058403/C2/4> (wherein Hal represents a chlorine, bromine or iodine atom) and hydrolysing the product. The compounds of the invention possess histamine and serotonin inhibiting activity, neuroleptic activity and narcosis potentiating activity; they may be administered enterally or parenterally in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them together with a carrier.
