Abstract
1,058,227. Diver's equipment. BELL AEROSPACE CORPORATION. Oct. 29, 1963 [March 29, 1963], No. 42588/63. Heading B7U. [Also in Divisions F1 and F4] A self-contained propulsion unit, e.g. for divers, comprises a hollow tubular body 84 containing an impeller which is connected to a turbine assembly (see Division F1) mounted adjacent one end of the body, and steam generating means 22 mounted adjacent said turbine and discharging thereto. As shown, the unit is fixed to a suitable harness 80 which in turn is attached to the user's body. The fuel tank 10 (see Division F1) contains hydrogen peroxide which is brought into contact with a catalyst which forms part of the steam generating means 22. The hot gases formed by the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide pass through a heat exchanger to transfer their heat to a closed circuit steam line which drives said turbine. Waste gases conveyed through conduit 112 may be treated to form oxygen and water for the user to breathe and drink. A lamp 88 may be run from an alternator operated by the turbine. A clutch operating handle 94 is operated so that the lamp may be operated even when the user wishes to remain stationary.
