Abstract

1,057,623. Flexible tubes. TECALEMIT (ENGINEERING) Ltd. July 26. 1963 [Aug. 1. 1962], No. 29732/63. Heading F2P. Flexible tubing comprises an inner tube of a fluid-tight material and at least one reinforcing layer surrounding the tube and of a material different from that of the inner tube which material after application to the inner tube is made to contract to a greater extent than the material of the inner tube by treatment applied to the tubing after application of the reinforcing layer such that the latter is under tension in the finished tubing, and an outer sheath of polyurethane surrounding and directly contacting the reinforcing layer. The extruded inner tube may be of a polyamide such as nylon 11 and the reinforcing layer of braided or helically wound threads or filaments, or tapes wound helically on to the tube, of unstabilized polyalkylene terephthalate esters, including particularly polyethylene or ethylene glycol terephthalates. The woven tapes are formed in such a way that the warp threads contract when the appropriate treatment is applied, while the weft threads do not contract, and this is done by using different materials for the warp and weft threads. Alternatively, the same material is used for both sets of threads, the weft threads being subjected to a stabilizing or other treatment which will cause them to contract before weaving takes place.
