Abstract
1,146,872. Hoses. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. 18 Nov., 1966 [17 Sept., 1965], No. 39800/65. Heading F2P. A hose comprises a tubular reinforcing layer made by knitting, braiding or lapping spun continuous filaments or single or multiple monofilaments 19 of nylon, rayon, polyethylene terephthalate or polypropylene which have been individually sheathed 20 by extrusion with natural or nitrile rubber, polyvinyl chloride, a blend of polyvinyl chloride and nitrile rubber, or polyurethane, a tubular layer of elastomeric material 21 bonded to the interior of the reinforcing layer or formed by flow of sheaths as a result of heat and pressure, and an outer cover 22 of elastomeric material bonded to the exterior of the reinforcing layer or formed by flow of the sheaths as a result of heat and pressure. As shown, two opposite layers of nylon filaments of denier 630 having an extruded coating of plasticized polyvinyl chloride are applied to a mandrel 18 at a helix angle of between 51 and 54 degrees. The windings are subject to heat and pressure whereby the sheaths flow to form inner and outer layers 21, 22. In a similar embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the reinforcement layers are braided and the flow of the sheaths bonds the layers to an additional inner lining 23 formed by a wound nitrile rubber strip. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the hose comprises an extruded lining tube 15 of natural rubber 15, a braided layer 16 formed of a nylon filament of 840 denier extrusion-coated with natural rubber and having a braid angle of 55 degrees, and an extruded rubber cover. In a similar embodiment to Fig. 2, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), two braided layers are provided. In a final embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the hose consists of a nitrile rubber lining 10, a textile braid of cotton, a high tensile steel wire braid having a braid angle of 53 degrees, an insulating sheet nitrile rubber layer 13, and an external braid 14 of nylon filaments 840 denier extrusion-coated with polyvinyl chloride, the sheaths of the latter flowing under pressure and heat to bond the braid layer to the rubber layer 13 and to form an outer cover. A rigid helix may be incorporated in a hose construction.
