1448601 Coated woven fabric BURLING- TON INDUSTRIES INC 17 Dec 1973 58277/ 73 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions Dl and D2] A continuous, spliceless strip of bias-cut fabric in which the angular displacement between warp and filling is greater than 90‹, is made by bias cutting a woven tubular fabric at an angle between 40‹ and 50‹ to the longitudinal axis of the tube to form a continuous strip of fabric, stretching the strip in its width direction. to increase that angle between the warp and filling thread through which the longitudinal direction of the strip passes, the angle after stretching being greater than 90‹, curing a curable liquid binder composition applied to the strip to stabilise the angular positions of the threads and applying an elastomeric composition to the strip. This may be followed by slitting the strip longitudinally of itself into a plurality of continuous tapes. Such a tape may be aligned longitudinally with and wrapped round the elastomeric core of a power transmission belt e.g. a V-belt to form a spliceless covering, or may be used as a hose reinforcement. The warp and weft threads are preferably at a final angle of 90-160‹ e.g. between 110‹ and 135‹. The binder composition may contain resorcinol formaldehyde and/or an elastomer e.g. neoprene. The woven fabric may be of cotton, cotton/nylon or cotton/ polyester. Widthwise stretching of the strip may be by overfeeding to a pin tenter.
