Abstract

In a forage-harvester having an endless conveyer 2 for feeding the crop from a pick-up position towards the crop-cutting mechanism (not shown) of the harvester, the bearings 11, 12 of the front sprockets of the conveyer serve for the mounting of auxiliary units for use with the harvester. The bearings support a shaft 7 which is driven from the conveyer and forms a power take-off for the auxiliary unit, being splined to receive an internally-splined coupling 9 within which another splined shaft 16 is received, driving the auxiliary unit. The auxiliary unit may be a pick-up drum (Fig. 2), a tined flail-drum (Fig. 3) or a beet-topping mechanism (Fig. 5). In the latter unit, the driven member 18 is the feeler-wheel, riding over the beet-tops, to position the fixed knife 19. A two-row topping mechanism is described.
