Abstract

1,184,542. Combine-harvesters. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd. 30 March, 1967 [6 April, 1966], No. 15355/66. Heading A1F. A grain-saving apparatus comprises a transversely-arranged rotary comb 32 for increasing the linear rearward speed of the mat of straw issuing from the rear of the straw-walkers 26 of a combine harvester, whereby the mat is thinned out to permit grain to pass therethrough, and graincollecting means 44 arranged below the comb for collecting the grain. The comb comprises a drum 32 with rows 34 of prongs protruding from its surface, the prongs being adjustable relatively to a radial direction to suit different types of crop. Below the drum is a grid 37 through which the grain falls on to a tray 44 delivering it to a grain-cleaning unit 47 where it is winnowed and passed by an auger 68 to the clean-grain elevator 76 and thence to the grain-tank 78. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the straw-mat passes over the rotary-comb.
