Abstract

1,057,022. Applying tear strips to wrappers. MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd. Aug. 9, 1963 [Aug. 10, 1962], No. 30784/62. Heading B8C. In forming a tear-strip from a web T of " Cellophane " (Trade Mark), one margin of the strip is coloured by an inking device 24-26, after which the web is cut into transverse strips by means of a rotary knife 14 operating against a fixed knife 17, the strips being pressed by an oscillating member 16 against the prepared underside of a wrapper web W, also of Cellophane. The web W is coated with a solvent by means of a roller 3 having an axial ridge 4 which brings the web into contact with a wick 5. A heater comprising a band 21 resiliently ; mounted on a support 20, rotates continuously in timed relation with the member 16. The web passes through rollers 7, 7a, the roller 7a, being segmental, and is finally severed by a knife 10. The tear-strip may surround the end or the middle of the package when wrapped Fig. 5 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), a strip of coloured " Sellotape " (Trade Mark), is applied to the margin of the tear-strip. Alternatively, a web W of tearstrip material, which is pre-coloured to have a distinguishable portion 28, may be used.
