Abstract
1,056,843. Drying webs. SPOONER DRYER & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Oct. 1, 1963 [July 4, 1962], No. 4704/66. Divided out of 1,056,842. Heading F4G. [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for drying webs of paper 200 or the like comprises an outer casing 204 having an inner pressure chamber 202 with a flat, lower perforate face 208 for the projection of high velocity streams of heated gaseous medium on to the web, supplied thereto by injector nozzles 216 in opposite side walls of the casing 204 which terminate adjacent injector orifices 212 in each side wall 210 of the chamber 202. Each orifice communicates with a mixerdiffuser 214, which are mounted parallel to one another, are oppositely directed, and are asymmetrically arranged in the pressure chamber. The nozzles 216 are supplied with heated air as from a turbine arrangement 172 and induce air from the space 218 between the casing and chamber into the mixer-diffusers, while some air is exhausted from the space through an opening 222. The material may be supported on rollers 206 or any form of coveyer, e.g. a stenter conveyer, and the face of the chamber may be arcuate.
