Abstract

1323400 Feeding webs A MONFORTS 7 March 1972 [28 April 1971] 10487/72 Heading B8R Apparatus for supporting a web 1 on a cushion of air or other gas comprises a plurality of nozzle boxes 2 spaced apart by channels 4 which serve to remove air blown on to the web. The boxes 2 are provided with obliquely-directed nozzles 6, 7, in the form of slots or holes, arranged as shown so that air jets 8, 9 issuing from adjacent boxes intersect below the supported web. Flow restricting elements 11 are positioned in the channels 4 to improve the operating characteristics of the apparatus. The boxes 2 and/or the elements 11 may also incorporate means enabling the web to be steam-treated, sprayed or cooled.
