Abstract
1,269,375. Ground effect machines. SOC. D'ETUDES ET DE DEVELOPPEMENT DES AEROGLISSEURS MARINS TERRESTRES ET AMPHIBIES. 15 July, 1969 [23 July, 1968], No. 35544/69. Heading B7K. In a G.E.M. having separate gas supply devices for supplying the lift cushion and propulsion jets, the propulsion jet duets and the gas cushion are permanently interconnected so that in the event of failure of one or more devices, the remaining devices maintain a gas supply. As shown, the cushion 1 is supplied directly by a fan 2 and variable area nozzle jets 15, 16 by fans 3, 4 via ducts 5, 6 which are interconnected by an orifice 17 and connected to the cushion by orifices 19, 20. The nozzle pressure is controlled by flaps 9, 10 which regulate the nozzle area in response to variations in total pressure of the motive flow in the duets 5, 6, and uncovering of jet-reversal louvres 11, 12 in ducts 5, 6 is controlled by flaps 13, 14. The nozzle pressure may be automatically adjusted to a pre-set value.
